Do you know what your IQ is? I don't! But like most, we do know that it translates to intelligence and success. While this might be the case, there is a new measure of success which comes in the form of 'Emotional Intelligence' (EI or EQ). I'm sure you've heard of it, but what does it mean?
It's quite simply, the ability to recognise, understand and manage our emotions. But as simple as it may sound, it can be difficult for some to master and comes naturally to others. The latter will make for great mentors, leaders and generally come in the form of an approachable friend or inspiring manager.
You might have the knowledge, the skills, the qualification along with the title, but do you have empathy, self-awareness and gratitude? These traits are the fundamentals of EQ, and without them, it doesn't matter how smart you are, you won't get far! Still not convinced? I'll leave you with the wise words of Darius Foroux...
A real leader knows the emotions of another person better than the person himself. But it all starts with knowing yourself first.
